Timothy J. van der Veen
Founder/Owner
Tim graduated from University of Massachusetts-Amherst with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. After working as an engineer for several years with a gas utility company, Tim transitioned to a law career by enrolling in Suffolk University Law School.
In 1996, Tim graduated from Suffolk Law Magna Cum Laude, finishing near the top of his class. While at Suffolk, Tim was a member of the school’s prestigious Law Review journal and published two articles on union labor issues.
After law school, Tim practiced as a litigator for two separate Boston firms with a focus on complex commercial disputes and insurance defense work. In 2003, Tim left the litigation world and formed his own firm dedicated exclusively to real estate.

Since 2003, Tim has handled thousands of real estate transactions throughout Massachusetts ranging from 1-bedroom condo sales to commercial transactions in the tens of millions.
Complimenting his law practice, Tim has become a prominent real estate instructor in Massachusetts. In the past 10 years, Tim has hosted or participated in dozens of homebuyer and home seller seminars throughout eastern Massachusetts. As a licensed real estate instructor, Tim also teaches realtor certification and continuing education classes through his chartered school, The Real Estate Academy. Tim’s work as real estate instructor ensures he is always current with changes in the law and with emerging market trends.
Tim’s vast teaching experience is reflected every day in his law practice. Tim’s philosophy on being an effective lawyer: “An educated client is a satisfied client.”
Tim lives on the south shore with his wife and 3 kids (and faithful black lab Max). His preferred ways to “unplug” include just about any outdoor activities, especially boating, hiking, playing sports with his kids, and working in the yard.

Barbara A. Emerson
Real Estate Attorney
Barbara is a knowledgeable, conscientious and highly-skilled real estate attorney. Upon graduating from Suffolk University Law School, Barbara joined her father and brother in the family firm specializing in municipal labor and school law. Transitioning to real estate in the late 1990’s, Barbara quickly found her niche. Working in small law firms with concentrations in residential real estate, Barbara learned to handle all aspects of residential real estate transactions from drafting purchase and sale agreements and title review to closing and post-closing responsibilities. No task is too small … or too big. Barbara’s goal in every transaction is to make the process of selling, buying or refinancing as smooth as possible for her clients.
Prior to joining Vanderveen Law, Barbara spent five years reviewing and clearing thousands of titles for a large, nationally recognized foreclosure firm. For most people, purchasing a home is the largest investment they will make. At Vanderveen Law, Barbara now employs her vast title expertise to ensure that all of her buyers receive a clean, worry-free title when they’re handed the keys at the closing table.
Raised in Milton, Barbara has lived in Marshfield for over 20 years.

Christina Barakat
Senior Paralegal
Christina Barakat has worked as a real estate paralegal since 2000 and joined Vanderveen Law in 2005.
Christina attended Bridgewater State College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at her boys’ schools and watching them participate in sports.
Christina lives on the south shore with her husband and two boys.
Nicole Picardi
Paralegal
Nicole Picardi has been in the real estate field since 2003, where she was a Title Examiner and joined Vanderveen Law in 2010.
Nicole went to Massasoit where she earned her Associates Degree in Business.

She loves to watch her 2 kids play sports and enjoys spending time with her family.
